2-(2-Oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)propanoic acid is a drug that is used to treat epilepsy. It inhibits the activity of glutamate, which is an excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain. It also has a low affinity for GABA receptors and has been shown to have anxiolytic effects in animal studies. 2-(2-Oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)propanoic acid binds to the chloride channel on nerve cells, thereby blocking the flow of potassium ions into these cells, leading to a decrease in neuronal activity. This drug is metabolized by oxidative reactions or hydrolysis, and its elimination half life after intravenous administration ranges from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
