This reaction is catalyzed by refluxing and forms the acrylonitrile, which can be converted to an amide with xylene and amines. This reaction yields more than 95% of the desired product. The translation process for this compound is cyclic, forming a six-membered ring with two double bonds. 2-Oxocyclohexanecarboxamide has been shown to react with nucleophiles such as amines and formylation
to produce amino acid derivatives.
