Product Information
- Octyl Tryptophanate
Octyl 2-amino-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoate hydrochloride is a hydroxide solution of an ester of anisole with octyl amine and 3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid. It is a yellow liquid that has a boiling point of 168°C. The product can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of lavendamycin, a natural antibiotic. Lavendamycin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibiting protein synthesis. Octyl 2-amino-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoate hydrochloride reacts with sodium formate in argon to form octyl 4-[2-[(octylamino)methyl]benzoyl]benzoate hydrochloride, which can then be reacted with potassium dichromate to produce lavendamycin.
