- 2-Oxo-3H-pyrimidine-4-carboxylicacid
2-Oxo-2,3-dihydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid is a metabolite of the amino acid L-homoserine. It is involved in the formation of collagen and calcium binding. This metabolite has been shown to have high concentrations in fatty tissue, which may be due to its role in energy metabolism. Serological tests show that this metabolite can be used as a marker for cancer and skin cells. 2-Oxo-2,3-dihydropyrimidine-4-carboxylic acid has also been shown to bind with cell factor and stem cell factor, two receptors that are necessary for the proliferation of cells. This metabolite has been shown to inhibit infectious diseases by preventing bacteria from attaching to cells in tissue infections.
