Oleoresin capsicum is a mixture of oleoresins that is obtained from the dried, ripe fruits of Capsicum annuum L. or Capsicum frutescens L. It contains capsaicin and related compounds such as dihydrocapsaicin, nordihydrocapsaicin, homocapsaicin, homodihydrocapsaicin and other minor capsaicinoids. Oleoresin capsicum has been shown to produce a variety of pharmacological effects including kinetic energy (i.e., velocity), hydrochloric acid, surface methodology (i.e., contact), physiological effects (e.g., pain) and natural compounds (e.g., eosinophil peroxidase).
