Oxyphenoniumbromide is an organic solvent. It is used as a reagent for the extraction of proteins from tissues and cells. Oxyphenoniumbromide inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the pylorus, which is the opening between the stomach and small intestine that controls passage of food into the small intestine. This compound also inhibits creatine metabolism in muscles, which may lead to fatigue. Oxyphenonium bromide has been shown to be an oxidant that can damage nerve tissue and nerve cells in animals. The experimental method used was leukocytes and animal submucosa.
