Description

(2E,4E)-Octa-2,4-dienal is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is found in mammalian cells. It is commercially available and can be used as a pharmaceutical preparation. (2E,4E)-Octa-2,4-dienal has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. The carboxylate group of the molecule binds with arachidonic acid in the cell membrane to form a complex called the lipoxygenase product. This product inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators such as leukotrienes and prostaglandins.
