Product Information
- 2-Hydroxymethyl Oxazole
2-Oxazolemethanol is a heterocyclic compound that is an intermediate in the synthesis of oxazoles. It is prepared by a sequence of reactions involving the cleavage of 2-chloromethyloxazole with hydrobromic acid, followed by the addition of ethanol to the resulting alcohol and subsequent oxidation with sodium nitrite in sulfuric acid. The optimized reaction sequence uses methanol as a solvent and produces more than 90% yield. This product has been used in the synthesis of oxazoles and heterocyclic rings.
