Description:

Octacosanol is a natural compound obtained from the fatty acid component of wheat germ. It has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects in animals and humans. Octacosanol lowers the blood glucose level by stimulating insulin secretion and inhibiting gluconeogenesis. This compound also possesses inhibitory activity on various effector proteins, including protein kinase C, which may be due to its ability to bind divalent cations such as Ca++, Mg++, or Mn++. Octacosanol inhibits 2-adrenergic receptors in a dose-dependent manner and can be used for the treatment of metabolic disorders.
