Product Information
- N-Octanoyl-phytosphingosine
- Sphingosines, phytosphingosines, N-octanoyl, Saccharomyces cerevisiae
N-Octanoyl 4-hydroxysphinganine is an octanoic acid derivative that can be synthesized by enzymatic modification of sphinganine. It is a substrate for hydroxylase enzymes, and it may also have bifunctional activities as a membrane protein. N-Octanoyl 4-hydroxysphinganine has been shown to inhibit the activity of the enzyme hydroxylase in kidney cells, suggesting that it may have potential as a treatment for kidney disease. N-Octanoyl 4-hydroxysphinganine has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties due to its inhibition of phospholipase A2, which is responsible for the release of arachidonic acid from phospholipids. This fatty acid can then be converted into prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and thromboxanes.
