The 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-21H,23H-porphine iron(III) chloride (FePcCl) is a coordination compound that has been shown to be sensitive to the presence of chloride ions. It reacts with peroxidase and peroxide to produce a red or blue color that can be used as an indicator for the presence of chloride ions. In addition to its ability to detect chloride ions, FePcCl also exhibits fluorescence when exposed to ultraviolet light. This compound has been shown in a number of studies to be sensitive to nucleic acids and has been used in assay systems for detecting nucleic acid sequences. FePcCl is also fluorescent and has been shown to have photophysical properties that make it useful for microscopy studies and Raman spectroscopy.
