Oxalyl bromide is a chemical inhibitor of group P2. It is synthesized by the reaction of diphenyl sulfoxide with trifluoroacetic acid. Oxalyl bromide has been used as a reagent in organic synthesis, and also as an inhibitor in pharmaceutical preparations, such as hydroxylase inhibitors. When added to sodium-dependent glucose uptake, oxalyl bromide inhibits the activity of the receptor. This agent also inhibits alkanoic acid oxidation, which may be due to its ability to act on the hydroxyl group or phenoxy group. Oxalyl bromide can form acidic compounds when it reacts with halides or congestive heart and can lead to cardiac arrhythmia.
