6-Azaindole is a 6-membered heterocycle that contains an azaindole ring. It has been shown to serve as a precursor for the synthesis of 1,3-oxazolo[4,5-c]pyridine derivatives. 6-Azaindole is used in the preparation of various carboxylic acid derivatives and pharmaceutical formulations, such as pyrazine. The intermediates are prepared by cyclisation of 6-azaindole with carboxylic acids or their derivatives via microwave irradiation or coupling with amines or other nucleophiles in the presence of copper salts.
