Product Information

Name:
Octa-2,4,6-trienal
Synonyms:
  • (E,E,E)-2,4,6-Octatrienal
Description:

Octa-2,4,6-trienal is a fatty acid amide that is found in a variety of natural sources, including plant and animal oils. It can be obtained from the polyunsaturated fatty acids linoleic and oleic acid by attack of nucleophiles such as hydroxyl groups, acetaldehyde or vinyl alcohol. Octa-2,4,6-trienal has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activities in Sprague Dawley rats. This activity was attributed to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by inhibition of enzyme cyclooxygenase. Octa-2,4,6-trienal also exhibited antioxidant properties when it was tested using an ultraviolet absorption assay. The antioxidant activity may be due to the ability to scavenge free radicals formed during ischemic reperfusion injury.
