(2E,13Z)-Octadecadien-1-ol is a synthetic pheromone that has been shown to be a potent attractant for conspecifics. This compound is found in the mandibular gland of the male gypsy moth and has been shown to elicit a synergistic effect with hexadecanoic acid, another pheromone. The two compounds together were more effective at attracting males than either one alone. The electron microscopic images of the antennae of female moths exposed to (2E,13Z)-octadecadien-1-ol show that this compound affects their morphology.
