Olmesartan medoxomil is a n-substituted methyl ether of olmesartan, a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker. It is used in the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure. Olmesartan medoxomil is metabolized by hydrolysis to olmesartan, which binds to the angiotensin II receptor with high affinity. This binding prevents the binding of angiotensin II and its subsequent effects. Olmesartan medoxomil has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria that are resistant to metronidazole and dichromate, including Clostridium difficile and Staphylococcus aureus.
