Olopatadine N-oxide is a molecule that has been shown to be an effective treatment for ocular symptoms such as itching, burning, and watering. Olopatadine N-oxide is metabolized by human liver microsomes to form olopatadine, which is the active form of the drug. The n-oxide metabolite has been shown to have no activity. It has also been shown to inhibit the enzyme monooxygenase in the nasal mucosa and sinuses. Olopatadine N-oxide inhibits histamine release from mast cells, which results in relief of allergy symptoms.
