Oxiracetam is a cognition enhancer, which is used to treat cognitive disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and dementia. Oxiracetam is synthesized from the amino acid leucine. The reaction yield of oxiracetam can be increased by using sodium hydrogen as a catalyst. It can also be produced industrially by using ester hydrochloride and trifluoroacetic acid. Sodium carbonate and chloride are used to produce oxiracetam through the dissociating process in liquid chromatography. The pharmacokinetic study of oxiracetam has been studied with methanol extraction and analytical methods such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry or liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.
