10-Oxo oxymorphone is an opioid that binds to the same receptors as oxycodone and has similar effects. It has high affinity for the myenteric plexus, which are nerve fibers in the intestine, and is thought to be a more potent analog of oxymorphone. 10-Oxo oxymorphone has been shown to bind to the same binding sites as oxymorphone and naltrexone in assays using rat ileum or mouse muscle tissue. It also shows selectivity for these binding sites over those of cyclazocine, which is used as an analgesic agent. 10-Oxo oxymorphone's affinity for these binding sites may be responsible for its analgesic activity.
