Oxociprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that has been shown to be effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. It is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and distributed throughout the body, with an elimination half-life of 3 hours. Oxociprofloxacin inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. This drug also has a toxic effect on respiratory system cells, which may be due to its ability to induce apoptosis. Oxociprofloxacin has been shown to inhibit lymphocyte transformation in humans, which may be due to its uv absorption properties. Oxociprofloxacin has also been shown to have potential interactions with caffeine, as well as other drugs such as warfarin or cimetidine. These interactions may lead to elevated serum levels of oxociprofloxacin or decreased levels of caffeine.
