Description:

Racemic 1-Oleoyl-3-chloropropanediol is a fatty acid ester that is used to produce the pharmaceutically active drug, clopidogrel. Racemic 1-Oleoyl-3-chloropropanediol is an intermediate in the synthesis of clopidogrel and can be recovered from the reaction mixture by liquid chromatography with ion monitoring. The product can also be obtained by extracting it from methyl oleate or ethyl oleate. It has been shown to inhibit fatty acid and glycidol ester formation in vitro.
