Description

Chloroform is a colorless, volatile liquid that has a sweet odor. It is used in pharmaceuticals, as a solvent and as an extraction agent. Chloroform is soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene and chloroform. It also has the ability to extract metals from ores. The chloroform extraction process can be carried out by adding water to the ore to form a slurry which is then mixed with chloroform. This mixture is filtered to remove any solid particles and the filtrate is evaporated at reduced pressure to leave behind the desired metal salt.
