L-Ornithine L-aspartate salt (OLA) is a precursor of arginine that can be used to treat chronic viral hepatitis. In an experimental model, OLA has been shown to improve the symptoms of infectious diseases and decrease mortality rates in mice with acute fulminant hepatitis. The administration of this compound also improved the energy metabolism in animals with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.
