Description

(3aR,4S,7aR)-Octahydro-4-hydroxy-4-[2-(3-methylphenyl)ethynyl]-1H-indole-1-carboxylic acid methyl ester (Mavoglurant) is a potent antagonist of the metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 1 (mGluR1). It has been shown to be an effective treatment for symptoms of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. Mavoglurant has also shown efficacy in animal models of schizophrenia and Huntington's disease. Mavoglurant binds to mGluR1 receptors on postsynaptic neurons and blocks ion channels that are activated by glutamate, thereby reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate. This prevents overstimulation of postsynaptic neurons and reduces the symptoms associated with these diseases.
