Octadecyl phenyl ketone (OPK) is an organic solvent that is used as a cationic surfactant. It is a liquid with a high boiling point, which makes it useful for dissolving other substances. OPK also has the ability to encapsulate and stabilize particles in solutions, such as polymers or pigments. The chemical structure of OPK consists of a hydrocarbon group and two carbonyl groups (C=O), which makes it acidic and reactive. This chemical can undergo photochemistry reactions when exposed to light or radiation, leading to an increase in its reactivity. When irradiated, the reaction solution changes from colorless to brown, depending on the number of photons absorbed by the compound. OPK reacts with amides and gives off an amine gas.
