3-Oxo-3-(3-pyridyl)propanenitrile (3OPP) is a chloride salt of 3-oxo-3-(3-pyridyl)-propanenitrile. It has been shown to have high catalytic activity and is used in the production of choline chloride. 3OPP can be obtained by treating an aldehyde with chlorine, followed by acidification and crystallization. The catalytic activity of 3OPP can be enhanced by irradiation, diffraction, and x-ray techniques. This compound also has magnetic properties that can be used for the synthesis of nanoparticles or electron microscopy techniques.
