4-Oxocyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid (4OCA) is a molecule that belongs to the class of corynebacteria. It is an acidic, low energy compound with a molecular weight of 122.06 g/mol. 4OCA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and inhibit the synthesis of epidermal growth factor (EGF). The EGF protein is involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, and apoptosis. 4OCA also inhibits the production of hepg2 cells by hydrochloric acid in amp-activated protein kinase 2 (AMPK2) cells. This inhibition leads to decreased levels of glutathione and glutathione reductase activity, which may be due to hydrogen bond formation between carbonyl groups on 4OCA and the hydroxyl group on p-hydroxybenzoic acid.
