Description:

4-Oxo-9-cis-Retinoic Acid is a synthetic retinoid that has been shown to be bioequivalent to 13-cis-retinoic acid. It is metabolized in the liver by oxidation of the 9,10 double bond and hydroxylation of the 4,5 double bond. This process yields dehydroretinoic acid, which is inactive and can be excreted in the urine. The oral bioavailability of 4-oxo-9-cis-retinoic acid has been measured at 100%.
