Description

2-Oxo-2,5-dihydro-pyrrole-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of pyrroles. It has been shown to be an acceptor for ketones and acetaldehyde. This compound is chiral and can be used as a diastereomeric salt with L-(+)-tartaric acid or D-(−)-mandelic acid. 2-Oxo-2,5-dihydro-pyrrole-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester yields are orientated towards the desired product when it is reacted with acetaldehyde in the presence of a chiral catalyst. The desired product can also be obtained by reacting this compound with L-(+)-tartaric acid in the presence of potassium carbonate.
