4-n-Octylbenzoic Acid is an organic compound with a molecular weight of 228.3 g/mol and a boiling point of 330 °C. It has a solubility of 0.01 g/L in water, 0.2 g/L in methanol, and 1.6 g/L in ethanol. The product is soluble in chloroform, ether, and benzene, but insoluble in petroleum ether and hexane. 4-n-Octylbenzoic Acid can be used as a monophenolase or diphenolase catalyst for the conversion of phenols to benzoates or benzenesulfonates, respectively. It also has some analytical uses due to its ability to form complexes with palladium ions that are sensitive to hydrogen bonding interactions such as hydrogen bonding between water molecules on the surface of the metal ion complex and hydroxyl groups on the ligands (e.g., acetone).
