Octyl-3,4-thiophenedicarboximide (OTDA) is a solvent with low toxicity and a high boiling point. It can be used as a diode, in the manufacture of chlorobenzene, or as a monomer for polyethylene. OTDA has been shown to be an acceptor for choline. OTDA also reacts with iodides, leading to photoluminescent compounds. OTDA is used in solar cells because it is able to absorb light energy from the sun and convert it into electrical energy. OTDA can also be used as an eutectic solvent with chloride or c-h bonds.
