Description

3-Oxo-cyclopentane-carboxylic acid is a monocarboxylic acid that can be found in wastewater. It is an acid catalyst and has been shown to have antibacterial properties. 3-Oxo-cyclopentane-carboxylic acid is also used to synthesize glutamate, which is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in the central nervous system. The uptake of glutamate by neurons may cause them to fire, resulting in the sensation of pain or other sensations. 3-Oxo-cyclopentane-carboxylic acid can be found as either a geometric isomer or an enantiomer, but it does not appear to have any effect on cancer cells.
