3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6-Octafluorooctan-1,8-Diol is a diester of octafluoropentanol and octafluorohexanediol. It is an activated hydrocarbon with an average molecular weight of 342. It is soluble in supercritical carbon dioxide but insoluble in most organic solvents. This product can be used as a monomer for the synthesis of polyesters. When used as a crosslinker in polyester production it can lead to low solubility due to its high molecular weight. 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6-Octafluorooctan-1,8-Diol also has enzymatic activity that is useful for the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids.
