Description

Octafluorotetrahydrothiophene 1,1-dioxide (CFT) is a polyatomic molecule that is used as a raw material for the production of fluoropolymers. CFT has been shown to be an effective antiviral drug against the H5N1 avian influenza virus, which belongs to the family of pandemic viruses. In addition, CFT has been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV-1 and HIV-2 in human cells. It inhibits viral RNA synthesis by interfering with the activity of reverse transcriptase and by binding directly to nucleic acids.
