Description:

Pyridine-N-oxide is a potent antagonist of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. It binds to the receptor by coordination to the nitrogen atoms in the ligand binding site. Pyridine-N-oxide has been shown to inhibit kidney fibrosis and is used as a potential therapeutic for this condition. Pyridine-N-oxide does not have any effect on other types of receptors, such as muscarinic, serotoninergic, or dopamine receptors. This drug has been shown to be effective in reducing high values in human serum. The mechanism of action of pyridine-N-oxide involves transfer reactions with trifluoroacetic acid and methanol solvent.
