Pyridine-4-carboxylic acid-N-oxide is a white solid with a melting point of 130°C. It is soluble in water and ethanol. Pyridine-4-carboxylic acid-N-oxide has been found to be supramolecular, which means that it forms structures in which molecules are linked together without the use of covalent bonds. The compound can also be crystallized and studied using infrared spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Pyridine-4-carboxylic acid N-(2,6-dichloro)pyridinium salt (PDCP) is a derivative of this compound and has been shown to have anticancer properties by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. PDCP inhibits the production of DNA and RNA by binding to amino groups on nucleic acids, preventing transcription and translation. PDCP also possesses antiinflammatory activities, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostagland
