1-Pentyne is a hydroxide solution that is used in an experimental model for gabapentin. The reaction mechanism of 1-pentyne is based on the formation of hydroxyl group, carbonyl group, and aromatic hydrocarbon. 1-Pentyne also reacts with sodium hydroxide to form sodium acetate and hydrogen gas. Reaction intermediates are produced when 1-pentyne reacts with potassium permanganate, which includes water, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen peroxide. Clinical studies have shown that 1-pentyne has potential as a treatment for diabetic neuropathy.
