Pyrogallol red is a biological dye that has been used as an optical sensor for the detection of chlorogenic acids. It is also used to measure molybdenum in human serum, as well as congestive heart failure. Pyrogallol red is degraded by enzymes such as peroxidases and catalase, which are present in human serum. The rate of this degradation can be measured by the disappearance of the color from the solution. This product has also been used to detect human immunoglobulin G (IgG) in a model system that mimics the surface methodology of immunoassays. This product has also been used to detect benzalkonium chloride in analytical methods.
