3-Pyridyl isothiocyanate (3PITC) is a chemical compound that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of mutant enzymes. It is also a molecular probe that can be inserted into the enzyme active site and detected by magnetic resonance analysis. 3PITC was found to have minimal toxicity in wild-type mice, but it showed hemolytic activity in erythrocytes from mutant mice. This molecule has been shown to react with amines and form redox signal-enhancing reaction products.
