Phenylglycinonitrile is an organic compound that is used to treat wastewater. It is synthesized by the reaction of phenylacetonitrile and sodium hydroxide in aqueous solution. This treatment process can be used to remove aromatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and inorganic acids from wastewater. Phenylglycinonitrile has been shown to have a high rate of degradation for both aerobic and anaerobic environments.
