Description:

Phenylacetylene is a molecule used as a catalyst in chemical reactions. It can be synthesized by the reaction of phenylacetic acid and sodium hydroxide with copper chloride. Phenylacetylene has been shown to react with trifluoroacetic acid to form an adduct that can be hydrolyzed by sodium carbonate to form phenol and acetone. This reaction is catalyzed by palladium, which binds the two molecules together in a hydrogen bond. The reaction mechanism is believed to involve the formation of an intermediate complex that decomposes into phenol and acetone.
