5-Pyrimidineboronic acid is a molecule that is involved in the synthesis of nucleotides, amino acids and sugars. It has been shown to cause cancer in animals and humans. 5-Pyrimidineboronic acid also inhibits the activity of an enzyme called ns3 protease, which plays a key role in tumor growth. The acidic nature of this compound makes it suitable for use as a chemotherapeutic agent against hypoxic tumors.
