5-[4-Phenyl-5-(Trifluoromethyl)-2-Thienyl]-3-[3-(Trifluoromethyl)Phenyl]-1,2,4-Oxadiazole (5CZD) is a novel synthetic small molecule that acts as a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme methyltransferase. 5CZD has been shown to inhibit the activation of the p42/p44 mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in pancreatic cancer cells. This inhibition was mediated through a Sew2871 dependent mechanism and was associated with an increase in pluripotent stem cells in vitro. 5CZD also inhibited the proliferation of human embryonic stem cells, but not mouse embryonic stem cells, which may be due to its agonistic activity against mouse MAPKs.
