Pradigastat is a small molecule that inhibits the activity of diacylglycerol acyltransferase-2 (DGAT-2) and hepatic lipase. It is used to treat patients with high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). Pradigastat binds to the active site of DGAT-2 and blocks the transfer of fatty acids from diacylglycerol to triglycerides, which reduces the production of chylomicrons. This compound also inhibits hepatic lipase, which reduces the production and secretion of VLDLs. In addition, pradigastat has antimicrobial effects against bacteria such as Helicobacter pylori, which are known to cause gastric ulcers. Pradigastat also prevents viral replication by inhibiting human macrophages involved in lipid metabolism.
