2-(Perfluorobutyl)ethyl methacrylate is a formaldehyde-based monomer that is used in the production of polymers. It can be synthesized by reacting formamide with triethylamine and chloride in a system of tetrahydrofuran and water. The 2-(Perfluorobutyl)ethyl methacrylate is then reacted with an appropriate reactive monomer such as methacrylic acid or vinyl chloride to produce polymers. 2-(Perfluorobutyl)ethyl methacrylate has been shown to have conditioning properties, which help to reduce the negative effects of polymerization on the polymer's physical properties. 2-(Perfluorobutyl)ethyl methacrylate also has wormlike micelles, which are highly reactive and can act as reducers.
