2-Phenyl-5-trifluoromethyl-2H-pyrazol-3-ol (PF3OH) is a metabolite of the nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug piroxicam. It has been shown to have a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) retention time and to be recovered in rat plasma following perfusion with piroxicam. PF3OH is metabolized by conjugation with glutathione and glucuronide, followed by oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes and reduction by glutathione reductase. This metabolite has been detected in human plasma samples obtained from volunteers who were administered piroxicam orally. It also has a UV detection wavelength of 254 nm.
PF3OH may have toxicokinetic properties that are different from those of its parent compound, piroxicam, because it undergoes different metabolic pathways and is excreted more rapidly than its parent
