- (3R)-pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid
- 4-(R)-3-Pyrrolidine carboxylic acid
Pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid is an organic compound that is used as a diagnostic agent for detecting fluorescence. It is also used in the synthesis of peptides and other biologically active molecules. Pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid was first synthesized in 1954 by reacting acetoacetic ester with pyrrole. This reaction produces a racemic mixture of pyrrolidine-3-carboxylic acid, which can be resolved to produce the (S)-isomer by recrystallization. The (S)-isomer has been shown to have better diagnostic properties than the (R)-isomer. Synthesis of this compound begins with the condensation of acetoacetic ester and pyrrole, followed by hydrolysis and decarboxylation reactions.END>
