Polyethylene glycol, dimethyl ether - MW 250 is a polymer of ethylene glycol and methyl ether. It is used as an electrolyte in the treatment of bowel disease. Polyethylene glycol, dimethyl ether - MW 250 has been shown to be effective in treating infectious diseases such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and cystic fibrosis. The polymer is synthesized by the reaction of an organic acid with ethylene oxide and a polyol. The chemical structure of polyethylene glycol, dimethyl ether - MW 250 can be determined by NMR spectroscopy. Structural analysis suggests that the polymer consists of three types of repeating units: one type contains both ethylene glycol and methyl ether; one type contains only ethylene glycol; and one type contains only methyl ether.
