4-Propoxybenzoyl chloride is a chiral molecule that can be synthesized from acetoacetate, hydroxylamine and chlorides. It is also possible to synthesize 4-propoxybenzoyl chloride by condensing salicylic acid with ethyl acetoacetate or benzamide. This compound inhibits the enzyme acetoacetyl-CoA thiolase, which is involved in the synthesis of ketone bodies and fatty acids. The pharmacophore for this compound has been identified as an allosteric modulator of the enzyme, which increases its activity.
