4-Phenyl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)methanol is a thiazolyl compound that is structurally related to piperazine. It has been shown to have bronchodilatory activity in humans, but the mechanism of this effect is not well understood. 4-Phenyl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)methanol has been found to be an inhibitor of the enzyme choline esterase. This enzyme breaks down acetylcholine in the neuromuscular junction and may be responsible for its bronchodilatory effects.
